Darren McGarvey takes on the trauma industrial complex
The Orwell Prize winning author and broadcaster launches his new project on trauma, which will culminate in an Edinburgh Fringe run
Darren McGarvey will be no stranger to fans of Strange Exiles. The author of the best-selling books Poverty Safari and The Social Distance Between Us and host of BBC documentaries The State We’re In and Class Wars, he was our guest back in Season 1.
Darren’s new project involves taking a deep dive into the discourse, research and taboos around trauma, and the industries and cultural conventions that feed on it. Today, he discusses the themes of his upcoming book, stage show and project with Andrea McIntosh, over on his YouTube channel.
If you’re a fan of Darren’s music as well as his work, and you can get to Glasgow this weekend, come and see him preview his new hip-hop album at the Glasgow Review of Books Poetry and Hip-Hop Special on Sunday night. I’ll be performing too!
