Listen to Episode 23: David McKerracher & Michael Downs - Underground Theory
Two stars of the underground theory scene join us to discuss capitalist realism, universal basic income and more.
In the penultimate episode of Season 2, I welcome two guests from the world of philosophy and critical theory. David McKerracher is the founder of Theory Underground, which exists as both an online lecture and seminar programme, and a thoroughly entertaining podcast.
David’s book TIMENERGY was recently reprinted with a foreword by none other than Slavoj Žižek, who also contributed to a collection of essays David recently published called Underground Theory. He joins us alongside his friend and frequent collaborator Michael Downs, author of the razor-sharp philosophy blog The Dangerous Maybe.
This is quite a dense, two-hour episode, so be sure to come back in a week or so for a follow-up post with some reading recommendations and further discussions of the ideas we talked about.
I mentioned that David and his TU colleagues are coming to Glasgow in May. That event is happening at the awesome Glasgow Zine Library on 22 May at 7pm. I’ll post a ticket link as soon as it goes live. Act fast as it will be an intimate, limited capacity event with space for open discussion of Timenergy theory and more.
