The Darkest Timeline X Varn Vlog, You Call That Radio, WBAI, This is Revolution and more
My adventure in the land of Theory Tube continues...
In the past two months I’ve appeared on several podcasts, each of which specialises in a different aspect or style of critical theory and philosophy. It’s been a brilliant experience.
It probably shouldn’t surprise me that after spending two years writing The Darkest Timeline, it would be both easy and great fun talking about the ideas the book explores with some of the smartest people out there in the podcast-o-sphere (Podverse? Podzone…? I’ll ask a Zoomer).
Varn Vlog
The latest of these interviews dropped today, an extended conversation with the theorist and critic C. Derrick Varn, aka Varn Vlog. He’s a very smart chap, and the Venn diagram of our interests has some interesting areas of overlap, especially around John Gray. You can watch the interview below.
You Call That Radio
Tonight, I’ll be going live with one of my favourite podcasts (and people), the inimitable Mark McG of Glasgow’s You Call That Radio. I’ve promised we’ll try and tackle drones, apocalypse movies, artificial intelligence, cyberpunk, simulation theory and aliens, so expect some carnage, and plenty of laughs.
WBAI-NYC Free Speech Radio
If you’re in the states, particularly the New York area, you can tune in tonight at 9pm on WBAI (2am UK time) to hear my conversation with filmmaker and journalist Jack Clarke. This was another great conversation that really unpacked the class dynamics of apocalypse narratives, among other things.
I’ve added all the links to the other interviews I’ve done to this linktree, and you’ll find a summary below. I’ve enjoyed all of these conversations, and it’s been a real privilege to meet each of these interviewers, all of whom are respected theorists in their own right.
The spirit of open debate, analytical and critical thinking, and viewpoint diversity are alive on these channels, and the work these writers produce. As children whisper lovingly to their parents now, as they tuck them into bed: “Click like and subscribe.”
